Wake and Committal Service

Janet passed during the peak of COVID infections and since she did not want anyone to get infected, no services were held. In 2022, infection rate was low enough to schedule a Wake in Chattanooga and the Collumbarium Committal at Shades Valley Lutheran Church in Birmingham that was our church for 25 years and where our son, Michael, was interned. People who could not make it to the Wake were invited to join by way of Zoom and 22 people joined the 48 who attended in person.

The Invitation. The story or Eulogy told by Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith is in another Post.

A Story From her niece, Cindy

“One story that I continue to tell after 34 years about how small the world is includes Aunt Janet. I was vacationing in Akumal, Mexico and happened to stop by a tiny bar with a grass hut on the side of the road next door in Chemuyil, Mexico. We were drinking a beer and struck up a conversation with two other patrons while watching a Coatis drink a bottle of coke (looks like a raccoon with a very long tail).

“We asked them where they were from and they said Birmingham, Alabama.  In my usual Wixson way, I said, “I only know two people from Birmingham and of course said, Aunt Janet and Uncle Steve.”  One of them said, “Not Janet Wixson” and I almost fell out of my chair. He was one of her employees. The bartender took a picture of all of us and off we went.  That following Christmas, I opened one of my gifts and it was a picture frame with a photo with the guy from Aunt Janet.  What a small world!”  Love, Cindy
